In this class you'll learn how to build up a gouache painting in layers without disturbing the paint underneath. We’ll put the technique into practice by creating a tiny magical greenhouse filled with plants, glowing details and plenty of lovely little layers.
Ever wondered whether you can follow one of the tutorials using watercolor instead? In this live class, I’ll take one of our paintings and recreate it with watercolor, showing you what translates easily, what needs adapting, and where a little gouache can still come in very handy.
A growing collection of plant silhouettes to help you build brush confidence, master shape, and gather endless inspiration for your landscapes!
This month our focus is on woodland trees. There are worksheets and a video walkthrough to help you get started!
In this month's projects we're exploring landscapes from near and far...
In this tutorial, we'll paint a vast mountain landscape reflected in still water, looking at how simplified shapes and changes in value can create an enormous sense of space.
In this project, we'll step beneath the trees into a layered woodland scene. We'll look how overlapping shapes and changes in contrast can make us feel as though we're standing inside the landscape.
Finally, we'll come in close and focus on a single glowing flower.
With a much smaller world to explore, we can pay attention to the tiny details that make the subject feel special.
