What is Gouache Boot Camp?

Gouache Boot Camp is a FREE mini-course that covers all the basics of working with gouache.

Each lesson demonstrates a key skill for mastering gouache. Watch the demonstration and give the techniques a go, and at the end of 7 lessons you’ll have built a solid foundation for using gouache, and have pages filled with techniques and notes to refer to as you paint. 


The 7 lessons we'll work through are:

Consistency

One of the best things about gouache is it’s wonderful opacity, and to achieve this we need to know the right amount of water to add to our paints. 

Brush Control

There’s a lot of options when it comes to brushes, so lets go over some things you need to know when painting with gouache. 

Handling the Paint

Getting that beautiful opaque finish requires adding the perfect amount of water, so let’s take a look at the best ways to handle the paint as we load the brush, mix new colors, and add water. 

Blending

Blending can be intimidating with gouache because of it’s fast drying time, but with a little care and attention we can create beautiful soft blends of color. 

Layering

We need to pay special attention to layering with gouache to avoid unintentional blending through layers. 

Color Mixing

You likely have a set of gouache paints that you’re eager to get started with, so lets take a look at the different ways we can adjust our colors for our paintings. 

Value

The value of a color refers to how light or dark it is on a gray scale. White is the highest value and black is the lowest value.

Each lesson contains:

▶ Specific exercises for you to try out to familiarize yourself with the techniques.
